Description
African penguins are iconic, charismatic seabirds—but did you know that they are sometimes found along the Garden Route coastline, far from their nearest breeding colonies?
Join us for the next Talk of the Town Tuesday as seabird expert Chanel Visser unpacks the fascinating (and concerning) story behind these unexpected penguin visitors. In this talk, Chanel will explore why African penguins travel such long distances in search of food, what factors are driving these movements, and why penguins are so often found stranded or in distress along our coast.
With African penguins now critically endangered, this talk will also highlight the multiple pressures working against their survival—and how local communities can play a role in helping when penguins wash up along our shores.
