Educator Empowerment Programme

Description

Together with Environmental Learning and Teaching, we have developed a teacher training programme. This programme specifically focuses on the natural sciences and correspond with the curriculum subject of Life and Natural Sciences. By empowering our teachers to be competent and confident in their teaching practices, they will be able to facilitate and inspire learners. One good teacher can have a long-lasting positive effect on a number of students, making this approach sustainable and economical in the long-term. The overarching aim of the Educator Empowerment Programme is to empower educators to be competent and confident in their teaching practices to facilitate and inspire learners.

This aim will be achieved by the following objectives:

  1. Provide teacher training, which is accredited by Rhodes University, and endorsed by the South African Council of Education, with Continued Professional Teacher Development Points provided for those who complete all the requirements of the course
  2. Develop site specific training resources for Life and Natural Sciences
  3. Provide support and resources throughout the programme
  4. Instil a passion for teaching

This project is funded by the Table Mountain Fund
